Building Negotiation Capacity

Kimberlyn Leary, PhD, ABPP will lead this interactive workshop and teach participants the basic principles of resolving, managing, and transforming conflicts through negotiation.  Working within the framework of “problem-solving negotiation,” participants will practice distinguishing interests from positions, assessing best-alternatives-to-negotiated-agreements (BATNA), creating and claiming value, and strategies for moving from proposals towards implementation.

Dr. Leary is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and the Chief Psychologist at the Cambridge Health Alliance. She received her Ph.D. from University of Michigan and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School, attending on a Public Services Fellowship.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

1) Describe the problem-solving approach to negotiation

2) Apply the principles and techniques of negotiation to sponsor and promote productive change in organization

3) Identify the basic principles of resolving, managing and transforming conflicts through negotiation
