Celebrating Women in Medicine and Science Month 

The Women in Medicine and Science Symposium will highlight the collaborations and achievements of women faculty and trainees at Brigham and Women’s Healthcare. The program will focus on the collaborations of women faculty and trainees across different disciplines - including basic science, clinical innovation, and translational research projects - with the goal of building community.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

ELIGIBILITY:The call for abstracts for oral and poster presentations is open to all women faculty and trainees (instructors, assistant professors, associate professors, professors, residents, clinical fellows, research fellows) in a BWH-affiliated department.  Authorship should include all project team members.  All faculty and trainees are encouraged to attend, whether they make a presentation or not.  Since this is not considered a national or regional meeting, previously presented talks are admissible. Furthermore, presenting at this meeting is not a deterrent for future national/regional meetings. 

AWARDS: The review committee will select four abstracts to be given as oral presentations and six to be displayed as poster presentations at the Women in Medicine and Science Symposium on Monday, September 28, 2015. Please note that there are not separate categories for the submission of abstracts for presentation. The Selection Committee reserves the right to choose which abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations and which abstracts will be selected for poster presentations. Submitted abstracts may be included in an event booklet. 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Prepare Abstract - All abstracts must adhere to 200 word limit and be a ".doc" file. Basic science, research, clinical research, translational research and clinical innovation project abtracts are welcome.  Please structure your abstract with the 4 sub-sections: Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions.  Any abstracts not in this format will be returned for editing. 
     
  2. Prepare Personal Statement - All personal statements must adhere to 100 word limit and be typed into the application.
    The personal statement should include why you feel it's important to participate in the Women in Medicine and Science Symposium and please include your research/clinical/innovation interests.
     
  3. Prepare Headshot - All photos must be less than 200kb and be a ".jpg" file.

DEADLINE: Monday, June 30, 2015

NOTIFICATION: Applicants will be notified by August 2015 by email for both Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation.

SELECTED ORAL PRESENTATIONS:  The oral presentation session will take place following the keynote address from 3:00-5:00 pm. Presentations slides must be in PowerPoint style (10 minutes maximum), submitted by Monday, September 22, 2014. Contact bwhcfdd@partners.org with questions.

SELECTED POSTER PRESENTATIONS:  The poster session will take place during the WMSS reception from 5:00-6:00 pm, and presenters must be present at their posters during this time. The maximum size for posters is 4 ft. x 4 ft., but they may be smaller – anything larger cannot be accommodated. Presenters are encouraged to utilize as much of the 4 ft. x 4 ft. space as possible.
