Overview:

Have you been an attendee or a participant at ‘Discover Brigham’ (formerly BWH Research Day) in the past? Did you wish that your specific scientific domain or a research topic exciting to your community had been featured as part of the day? Is your department planning to host an educational or research event in the upcoming year? Do you have any ideas about how we could make Discover Brigham even better? If yes to any of the above, find out more below about how you can be an integral part of the Discover Brigham celebration next year.

In an effort to reach the broadest swath of the BWH community at Discover Brigham (DB) 2019, the BRI is opening a call for sessions, demos, and ideas. BWH researchers, clinicians and staff are invited to submit abstracts for sessions focused on research and/or clinical innovation topics and/or demos at this annual research showcase or, if you have an idea about how we should celebrate and elevate research at BWH, submit that as well. Come up with your best idea(s) for session, demos or even the whole event and the BRI will provide the logistical support necessary to execute your vision for Discover Brigham!

Process:

• The call for sessions, demos, and ideas will be open to all BWH departments, researchers, clinicians and staff
• Each individual or entity can put forward up to three ideas for sessions, demos or the whole event
• BRI leadership will evaluate and prioritize applications
• Successful applicant(s) will be responsible for the content of their sessions and/or demos. The BRI will be responsible for providing logistical support during the planning process and on the day of Discover Brigham (Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 12:00 – 6:00 PM) as well as for publicizing the event

Eligibility:

• Must be a Brigham or Partners employee conducting research at the Brigham. The topic or demo must focus on work being done at the Brigham.
• Abstracts may be submitted by entities/researchers/clinicians/staff.
• Each individual/department can submit up to three ideas for a session, a demo or the entire event.

Application Criteria:

• Abstracts may be submitted for a session, a demo or the entire event
• All research/clinical innovation themes are welcome
• Note we are flexible with respect to most aspects of the day, including format, length of features and timing. Please indicate any preferences/restrictions in the application form.

Review Criteria:

The BRI Executive Committee in conjunction with the BRI Research Oversight Committee (represents all BWH departments) will evaluate and prioritize proposals based on the following relevant criteria:

• If proposing a plan for the entire event, is it feasible, clear and well defined?
• If proposing a topic, is it relevant/significant to those working at BWH or beyond?
• Is the proposal clear and well-defined?
• Does the proposed topic have the potential to attract a significant audience (approximately 50-plus people).
• Has the topic been featured at a recent DB event?
